Del Mar Photonics is your one stop source for ultrafast (femtosecond) as well as continuum wave (CW) narrow linewidth Ti:Sapphire lasers Del Mar Photonics is your one stop source for ultrafast (femtosecond) as well as continuous wave (CW) Ti:Sapphire lasers with narrow linewidth
Titanium-doped sapphire (Ti:Sapphire) is a solid state laser medium capable of wavelength tunable laser operation over the broad range of visible and near infrared (NIR) spectral band. With the properly chosen cavity Ti:Sapphire laser can deliver coherent radiation in the range of wavelengths from 690 nm to 1080 nm. The gain in Ti:Sapphire medium spreads over the range >200nm and therefore can support generation of ultrashort pulses of less than 10 fs using  Kerr lens mode-locking (KLM). The pulse duration from these lasers is determined by critical interplay between intracavity self-phase modulation in and negative group delay dispersion.
Del Mar Photonics femtosecond Ti:Sapphire lasers are available with 100 fs, 50 fs and 20 fs pulse durations as pre-assembled kits, as well as one-box oscillators integrated with DPSS pump lasers Trestles Finesse, and also a stand alone Ti:Sapphire oscillator with any suitable pump laser.
Del Mar Photonics Ti:Sapphire CW lasers are available with linewidth in GHz range  40GHz - 20GHz - 2GHz (Del Mar Photonics model Trestles CW) down to < 10 kHz rms in a new ultra-narrow-linewidth super-frequency-stable TIS-SF-777 laser designed for atom cooling and high-precision spectroscopy.

New laser spectrometer OB' for research studies demanding fine resolution and high spectral density of radiation within UV-VIS-NIR spectral domains New laser spectrometer OB' for research  that demands high resolution and high spectral density in UV-VIS-NIR spectral domains
The OB' laser spectrometer includes a CW ultra-wide-tunable narrow-line laser, high-precision wavelength meter, an electronic control unit driven through USB interface as well as a software package. Novel advanced design of the fundamental laser component implements efficient intra-cavity frequency doubling as well as provides a state-of-the-art combined ultra-wide-tunable Ti:Sapphire & Dye laser capable of covering together a super-broad spectral range between 275 and 1100 nm. Wavelength selection components as well as the position of the non-linear crystal are precisely tuned by a closed-loop control system, which incorporates highly accurate wavelength meter. First customer who purchased OB' laser spectrometer is Mr. Christophe Couteau,  Photonic Entanglement Group (PEG) led by Professor Gregor Weihs, Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC). The IQC is a part of the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.

Femtosecond Transient Absorption Measurements system Hatteras Femtosecond Transient Absorption Measurements system Hatteras.
Future nanostructures and biological nanosystems will take advantage not only of the small dimensions of the objects but of the specific way of interaction between nano-objects. The interactions of building blocks within these nanosystems will be studied and optimized on the femtosecond time scale - says Sergey Egorov, President and CEO of Del Mar Photonics, Inc. Thus we put a lot of our efforts and resources into the development of new Ultrafast Dynamics Tools such as our Femtosecond Transient Absorption Measurements system Hatteras. Whether you want to create a new photovoltaic system that will efficiently convert photon energy in charge separation, or build a molecular complex that will dump photon energy into local heat to kill cancer cells, or create a new fluorescent probe for FRET microscopy, understanding of internal dynamics on femtosecond time scale is utterly important and requires advanced measurement techniques.

Inactivation of viruses with a femtosecond laser via impulsive stimulated Raman scattering

Prof. Kong-Thon Tsen from Arizona State University uses Del Mar Photonics femtosecond laser Trestles 50 in his research on laser inactivation of viruses. His work was presented recently at Photonics West 2008 conference in San Jose, CA.
BACKGROUND: Resonant microwave absorption has been proposed in the literature to excite the vibrational states of microorganisms in an attempt to destroy them. But it is extremely difficult to transfer microwave excitation energy to the vibrational energy of microorganisms due to severe absorption of water in this spectral range. We demonstrate for the first time that, by using a visible femtosecond laser, it is effective to inactivate viruses such as bacteriophage M13 through impulsive stimulated Raman scattering. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: By using a very low power (as low as 0.5 nj/pulse) visible femtosecond laser having a wavelength of 425 nm and a pulse width of 100 fs, we show that M13 phages were inactivated when the laser power density was greater than or equal to 50 MW/cm2. The inactivation of M13 phages was determined by plaque counts and had been found to depend on the pulse width as well as power density of the excitation laser. CONCLUSION: Our experimental findings lay down the foundation for an innovative new strategy of using a very low power visible femtosecond laser to selectively inactivate viruses and other microorganisms while leaving sensitive materials unharmed by manipulating and controlling with the femtosecond laser system.

Absolute Distance Measurements Using the Optical Comb of a Femtosecond Pulse Laser Trestles

Del Mar Photonics customer Seung-Woo Kim recently published an article in the International Journal of Precision Engineering and Manufacturing (Vol. 8, No.4, pp.22-26, 22 Oct. 2007) about the research at KAIST,  South Korea, in which he describes a new way of implementing absolute displacement measurements by exploiting the optical comb of a femtosecond pulse laser (Trestles 50) as a wavelength ruler.  Their results demonstrate a successful industrial application of an optical frequency synthesis employing a femtosecond laser (Trestles 50), a technique that offers many possibilities for performing precision length metrology that is traceable to the well-defined international definition of time. more

Manufacturing challenging optical components

Our group works to characterize the interaction of biomolecules with solid surfaces, writes Dennis Hore of University of Victoria, Canada.  Nature designs proteins with well-defined structures in solution.  The conformation of these molecules may serve a structural purpose, or a chemical one in the case of enzymes.  In order to further the progress of technologies that immobilize such molecules on synthetic surfaces (like biosensors employing enzymes), it is important to have a detailed understanding and control of the interactions of these molecules with the surface more
For that project Del Mar has been able to manufacture all shapes of prisms from CaF2, fused silica, and ZnSe according to our custom specifications.

Del Mar Photonics online store features windows, prisms, lenses, attenuators, etalons, crystals and wafers, and other items. Axicons, barium fluoride windows, germanium etalons, rutile (TiO2) prisms, microchannel plates and detectors, saturable absorber mirrors, photoconductive THz antennas, lithium niobate wafers and crystals and many other high quality affordable components for scientific research and OEM production are delivered globally from our stock.
